Jewell was born to Marshall and Marie Janes on October 1, 1930, in Steele, ND, but spent much of her childhood in Baudette where her family owned the locker plant. After Harvey and Jewell married, they moved back to Baudette, where Harvey worked in a filling station and soon after owned the Texaco station, which he operated until the late seventies. At that time, he sold the station to pursue farming full time on their farm along County Road 6. In 1992 the couple was named as the Red River Valley Winter Show's Lake of the Woods County Farmer and Homemaker Award recipients. During the winter, the couple often spent time at their other home in the South to be close to their daughter, Judie.
Harvey passed away on November 4, 1995 and Jewell remained on the farm, gardening and helping her son Darrell with the farm. Some of her hobbies included gardening, going to garage sales, crocheting and keeping involved with the farm operation.
Survivors include her children: Darrell (Doris) Nelson of Baudette, MN; and Jane (David) Anderson of Burnsville, MN; her grandchildren: Jamie Loftis of Memphis, MN; Marshall Nelson, and Marsha (Josh) Beckel all of Baudette, MN; Jared and Jonathan Anderson of Burnsville, MN; her great grandsons: Alexander Beckel and Justice Loftis; and her sisters: Ruth (Earl) Dahlin and Shirley (Ed) Olsen all of Kent, WA.
