Aurelia (Votava) Emery, age 88, passed away on August 16, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
Aurelia “Arlie” was born on October 21, 1920, in Vesleyville, ND. In her youth, Aurelia spent time working on her folk’s farm and completing the 8th grade. She also steam pressed clothes at a dry cleaners along with being a caretaker for children and housekeeper for families. Her main passion was cooking at Dumas Café and the Hillsboro Nursing Home.
Aurelia was very active with St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Women’s Auxiliary and bingo calling at Kiwanis Drive in Hillsboro where she resided since 1982. She lovingly cared for her family, enjoyed old time music, baking, crafts, gardening, canning, and playing cards. She was also very interested in all sporting events involving the family and community.
Aurelia is survived by her children: Duane Emery of Livermore, CA, Vivian Emery of Hillsboro, ND, Carol Ford of St. Cloud, MN, Elaine Johnson of Hillsboro, ND, and Daniel Emery of Fairmount, ND. She is also survived by her brother, Emil (Louise) Votava; her sisters: Bertha (Fred) Hodney, Betty (John) Soukup, and Verna (Dennis) Beneda; her sister-in-law, Joan Votava; her fourteen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Leo Emery; her parents, George and Anna (Suda) Votava; two infant brothers and sisters; her brother, Clement Votava; and her grandson, Darin Bakken.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro
Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro – and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Thursday
Prayer Service: 7 p.m. Wed- nesday at St. Rose of Lima.
Burial: St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery.
