Myron V. Albrecht
Myron V. Albrecht, 67, Salina, KS, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Salina.
Myron was born May 24, 1942 in Mandan, ND to Edward L. and Anna M. (Gall) Albrecht. Myron graduated from high school in Drayton, ND in 1960. While in Drayton, he played in the American Legion Baseball team who won their first of 6 state championships in 1958. His 1958 team challenged the Class A semi-finals for the national championship. Myron graduated in 1964 from the University of North Dakota with a dual degree in Physical Education and History. He played all four years for the UND baseball team, and was elected to the All Conference Team his junior and senior year in the North Central Conference.
After graduation, he taught high school and coached in Humboldt, MN for two years. He worked for JC Penney in St. Paul, MN for a year, and then spent the next 16 years working in store management for Woolworth/Woolco in the Milwaukee area and finally as Store Manager of Woolco in Salina, KS until the store closed in 1983.
Myron always had an intense love of baseball. He was a fan of many sports, but baseball was his first love. Over the years, he amassed a collection of sports memorabilia and donated many of his American Legion items to the Drayton Historical Society Museum. He spent as much time as possible attending minor and major league games, attending the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, and working at least one ball game into every vacation he planned. His knowledge of baseball facts, trivia and statistics accumulated over his lifetime, amazed everyone. Myron knew no strangers and was willing to talk sports with anyone he met.

Myron and I played high school basketball and Legion baseball against each other when I was at Sacred Heart in EGF. We also were classmates at UND, in the PE department in the '60s. I knew Myron well. What a great guy, I corresponded with him a little on e-mail the past few years. I will miss him. My heartfelt sympathies to the Albrecht family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Dan Neppel, Tulare, CATulare, CA 07/27/2009 3:27 PM
