Dorothy Johnson, 101, of Parkwood Place in Grand Forks, ND, passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, MN on Tuesday morning, July 21, 2009.
Dorothy M. Bernath was born March 30, 1908 in Hill Township of Kittson County to John and Jessie (Doig) Bernath. In 1926 she graduated from St. Vincent High School in St. Vincent, MN. Dorothy went on to attend Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. On March 27, 1937, she married Porter R. Johnson in Crookston, MN. They made their home in Grand Forks where Dorothy worked for the county ASCS office and the Mayflower Agency. Porter died on August 23, 1977.
Dorothy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church; The Order of the Eastern Star and had served as Past Worthy Matron; Past Grand Noble of Maple Leaf Rebekah Lodge #3; and Past Grand Counselor of United Commercial Travelers (North Dakota-Minnesota).
She is survived by nieces; nephews and family members, Betty and Jim Younggren and Bill and Lynn Moore of Hallock. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Porter; sisters, Matilda Armstrong, Martha Matthew, Esther Griffith, Ethel Lundeen and June Moore; and brothers, Edward, Wilbur and James.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist, Grand Forks.
Visitation will be held in the church for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
