Susan T. Szepelak, 86, of Thompson, ND passed away Friday, June 26, 2009 at her home in Thompson.
Susan Theresa Williams was born March 30, 1923 the daughter of Robert C. and Lorene (Linscomb) Williams in Ionia, MI. Her family moved to Grand Forks when she was three years old. She graduated from Davis Tech. in Grand Rapids, MI and attended Heaney’s Commercial College earning a degree in Business Administration. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service during WWII. She lived in Wilmington, OH, Florida and Kansas City, MO working in these places as a credit department professional. She married John N. Szepelak on May 8, 1956 in North Kansas City, MO. After their marriage, they returned to Thompson, ND. In Grand Forks, she worked R.B. Griffith Co., Dr’s Ralph and James Leigh at the Leigh Clinic and later for Goodman’s Home Furnishings until her retirement in 1983. John preceded her in death on May 13, 2001.
Susan was a Certified Consumer Credit Executive for over 50 years and was active in the Credit Professionals International and received 25 years perfect attendance in 1983. She was certified as a Credit Executive in Atlanta, GA in 1973. She served in all local and district offices and was International Treasurer and Secretary before retiring in 1983. She was active in her church until 1997 the year of the flood. She was a life member of the International Credit Association.
Many families shared their children with Susan and John over the years which were a joy. Other special people in their lives were the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anne’s Guest Home in Grand Forks and Hankinson and the Benedictine Priests & Brothers of the Blue Cloud Abby.
She is survived by her brother, Edwin; a niece, Rosalie (Dave) Harmon; sister-in-law, Margaret Szepelak and brother-in-law, Louie Szepelak.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a sister, Clydell Koziel; a brother, Robert “Bobby” Williams.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Thompson, ND.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service and 4:30 p.m. rosary service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.
Burial: St. Jude’s Cemetery, Thompson, ND
