Ruth Ann Gunderson

Ruth Ann Gunderson, 89, Beaver Falls, PA, and formerly of Grand Forks, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, to be with her husband, Ralph, and family in eternal rest.

Ruth Ann Gunderson, 89, Beaver Falls, PA, and formerly of Grand Forks, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, to be with her husband, Ralph, and family in eternal rest.

Ruth was born in Grand Forks to John A. and Harriet (Churchill) Miller on January 31, 1920. Ruth lived in Grand Forks, ND for 87 years and retired from the University Of North Dakota's Food Service. She moved to Beaver Falls in 2007, living with her daughter, Cheryl Springer, and her husband, Jack. Ruth married Ralph S. Gunderson on July 26, 1947 in Grand Forks. They celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death on August 15, 1998. She was a life member of VFW Auxiliary Post # 1874 and a 43 year member of American Legion Auxiliary unit 157, East Grand Forks. Ruth loved telling stories of her days in the shipyards of Portland, OR, during World War II. Ruth loved to listen to Sunday church services on the radio.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jack Springer, Beaver Falls; three granddaughters, Christy Hughes and husband Bill, Ellwood City; Jana Jandra and husband, Michael, Berkley, CA, and Jaclyn Gray and husband Gary, Hopewell Township. She was affectionately called "G.G" by her five great-grandchildren, Woodrow and Calvin Hughes, Jake and Malia Jandra, and Connor Gray. She also leaves behind many relatives and friends in North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gunderson, two brothers and three sisters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks.

Visitation: 4:30 to 7:30 with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service Wednesday, June 10 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and for the hour prior to the service in the church.

Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.

Memorial contributions can be made to the United Lutheran Church Radio Fund, 324 Chestnut Street, Grand Forks, ND 58201.

I enjoyed having Ruth and Ralph as clients when I came to GF in 1996. They were wonderful people and am sorry to hear of Ruth's death. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Sharon Opdahl, State Farm
