Joanne Stensrud, 76, of East Grand Forks, MN, died Friday, May 29, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Joanne was born on July 29, 1932 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Waldo and Fern Lovald. She grew up in Duluth and spent several glorious summers on her grand- parents' farm near Valley City, ND.
Joanne graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth, MN in 1950, and married Wayne Nord shortly thereafter. She became the mother of three beautiful girls and then the family moved to Corona, CA. The marriage dissolved and Joanne and the girls moved back to Duluth, MN. This is where she met Orville Stensrud. They were joined in marriage on April 23, 1960, and became the parents of a fourth daughter and made their home in East Grand Forks, MN. Joanne held different jobs including homemaker, bank teller, Para Professional with the East Grand Forks School District, waitress and banquet server. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cards, needle crafts, and movies, was an active member of mission belles, and also her church.
Joanne is preceded in death by her mother and father, Fern and Donald Bostrom; her husband Orville and two daughters, Deborah (Steve) Hunt, and Jewel (Terry) Kvamme.
Joanne is survived by two daughters: Sheryl Watson and Laurel (Dennis) Dahlin; five grandchildren: Jessica (Joe) Jordan, Stephanie (Greg) Knepper, Sarah (Brad) Downen, Jennifer Hunt and Carl Watson; two great-grandchildren: Joseph and Joshua Jordan.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Hope Evangelical Covenant Church, 1601 17th Ave. S., Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour before Funeral Service in Hope Evangelical Covenant Church.
Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN
