Myrtle S. Helgesen, 96, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Woodside Village, Valley 4000 in Grand Forks.
Myrtle S. Johnson was born January 7, 1913 in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of John and Cassie (Weir) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1931. Myrtle married Ole Helgesen on October 22, 1938. Myrtle was employed as a secretary at the First Methodist Church; JoBell DeRemer and Son, Architects; Wesley College; and retired in 1976 after 21 years in the office of Valley Jr. High School. She was a charter member of University Lutheran Church, past president of its WELCA and a long time member of the Bethesda Society.
She enjoyed baking, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Myrtle is survived by : Son: John (Charleen) Helgesen – Battle Lake, MN; Daughter: Martha Haug – Grand Forks; Grandchildren: Karla (Timothy) Dalton; Kristin (Jeremy) Kraemer; and Brian Haug; Great Grandchildren: John Dalton, Elizabeth Dalton, and Rachel Kraemer; Sister: LuVerne Larson – St. Paul, MN; Many Nieces and Nephews
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Ole on Dec. 11, 1986; her parents; brothers, Earl, Roy, Donald and a son-in-law B.J., Haug.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks.
Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.

Martha, John, Charleen and families, We are sorry to hear of the loss of Myrtle. She was a very special lady and will be missed.
