Barbara E. Wilhelmi, 90, Grand Forks, ND died Friday April 17, 2009 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara Elizabeth Wilhelmi was born August 10, 1918 the daughter of Edmund and Rose (Sander) Scheett near Rugby, ND. She attended school in Nekoma, ND. She worked as a housekeeper for several families, including former Governor Sinner's family. She married Walter R. Wilhelmi on April 24, 1946 in St. Edwards Catholic Church, Nekoma, ND. They farmed until moving to Grand Forks, ND in the early 1950's. She worked at Harriman's Chiropractic Clinic and A&W Drive Inn. Barbara was a member of St. Michael’s Church and Altar Society, K.C. (Knights of Columbus) Ladies and Grand Forks Senior Citizens Center. For several years, Barbara was actively involved in the St. Michael’s Christmas Eve Dinner.

Barbara and Walter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before his death in June, 2006. They enjoyed many years together with their nine children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara spent the last three and one-half years as a resident of St. Anne’s Guest home. While there, she loved visiting with her many friends and the caring staff.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Rosie (Jim) Cormican, Fosston, MN, Rita (John) Schmisek, Highlands Ranch, CO, Janet (Gale) Fossen, Glyndon, MN, Barb (Don) Rood, Theresa (Dan) Finnie, Mary (Ken) Sobolik and Donna (John) Anglebrandt all of Grand Forks, ND, Karen (Paul) Bergquist, Ames, IA; and son, Dick (Kathy), Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Jim Cormican, Steve (Dianne Petersen)Cormican, Brian (Marnie) Schmisek, Amy (Mark) Strong, Tracy (Dan) Schuster, Mike (Samantha) Schmisek, Chad (Tiffany) Fossen, Heath (Heidi) Fossen, Ben & Ali Rood, Jeremy (Jess Thorlacius) Finnie, Katie (Mike) Hess, Ryan & Kellen Sobolik, Zack & Tianna Wilhelmi, Chad (Marty) Anglebrandt, Mike Anglebrandt, Brittany (Nathan Summerville) Walker, Karly & Abby Bergquist; great grandchildren, Michael & Jacob Cormican, John, Clare, Peter & Helen Schmisek, Matthew, Ann, Mary & Michael Strong, Emily Schuster, Gage & Grayson Fossen, Olivia Fossen, Madison Hess, Zander & Piper Anglebrandt; sisters, Christina Schmidt, Plentywood MT, Ann Zahradka, West Fargo, ND; brothers; Simon (Eva),Bismarck, ND, Francis, Newport News, VA, Eddie (Jamie), Waterford, MI, Peter (Floyce), El Dorado, AK, Tony (Joan) Grand Forks, ND, Gabe (Corky) West Fargo, ND, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, infant daughter, Margaret; infant son Walter, grandson, Ronnie Cormican and brother, Conrad.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service and 4:30 p.m. rosary service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday.

Burial: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Michigan City Cemetery, Michigan, ND.

Memorials: In remembrance of Barbara, memorials may be given to St. Anne’s Guest Home, 524 17th Street North, Grand Forks, ND 58203 or St. Michael’s Foundation, 520 North 6th Street, Grand Forks, ND 58203.
