Doris L. Walukievicz

Doris L. Walukievicz passed away on March 28, 2009, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with her children by her side. She was 80 years old.

Doris was born August 12, 1928, in Marshall County, near Stephen, MN, to Albert and Gertrude Jacobson. She spent the first three years of her life there until her parents bought a farmstead along the Two River in Thompson Township near Hallock, MN, in 1931.

She attended the country school near her home through the eighth grade and then attended Hallock High School, where she graduated in 1946.

She was a bookkeeper in the Hallock school system until her marriage to Joseph S. Walukievicz of rural Lancaster,MN.

Joe and Doris traveled extensively in the early years of their marriage. Joe worked on a ranch in eastern Montana before operating heavy machinery on pipeline construction. They traveled with the pipeline throughout Oklahoma and to many other states before ending up in northern Minnesota, where they lived for several years on the Iron Range and on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The couple settled in Hallock when Joe started his own construction business and later also raised cattle and farmed near Lancaster.

Doris is survived by her daughter Susan Walukievicz of Minneapolis, MN; daughter Sandra (Richard) Van Eck of Grand Forks, ND; son Brian (Gretchen) West of Shoreview, MN; and three grandchildren: Jessica, Madelyn, and Megan. Doris is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Snare, of Fargo, ND. She is also survived by her brother-in- law, Stephen, of Lancaster, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Jacobson of Nine Mile Falls, WA; Mae Jacobson of Shakopee, MN; Vicky Moore and Helen Walukievicz of Fargo; Wendy Eberle of Dawson, ND; and Verna Neubarth of Moorhead, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 2005, by her parents, and by her five brothers, Clifford, Ray, Vernon, Melvin, and Roy.

Doris loved playing whist and enjoyed playing bingo. She followed Twins baseball faithfully and listened to country music nearly every day of her life. In her later years, she doted on her cat, Lucy, and on her granddaughters. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock and of the Eagles Auxiliary in Hallock.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock, MN.

Visitation will be Friday, April 17, at Adamson-Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock, MN, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with prayers at 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, MN, at a later date.
