Carrie Rose Schwartz, 97, Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Carrie Rose Metzger was born October 31, 1911 the daughter of Mathew and Clara (Diekman) Metzger in Mt. Carmel. She married Leo Schwartz on May 3, 1938 in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Langdon, ND. They lived in the Langdon area until moving to Grand Forks, ND in 1942. Leo preceded her in death on November 2, 1978. Carrie continued to live in her home until moving to St. Anne’s Guest Home in 2002.
Carrie touched the lives of all that knew her with her warmth and generous spirit and the strength of her faith. She loved cooking for her family, caring for her grandchildren, music, gardening and flowers, and attending mass which she did daily for years.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald, Swan, Iowa; William (Bill), Detroit Lakes, MN and daughter Mary Kay Schwartz- Hjelmstad, Murietta, CA.;9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a sister, Verna Dumas and brother Larry (Rose) Metzger; Grand Forks, ND; and brother Judd (Barbara) Metzger, Bremerton, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo; a granddaughter, Tami Schwartz; sisters Aurelia, Lyda, a twin sister Clara, Irene, Lillian and Patricia.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2009 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday with a 3:00 p.m. vigil service and a 12:30 p.m. rosary service in Gregory J. Norman - Norman Funeral Home, S. Washington St. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND, in the spring.
