Michael John Nisbet, 38, of Grand Forks, ND passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Michael was born on December 11, 1970 in Grand Forks. He is the son of John and Marilyn Nisbet of East Grand Forks, MN. He graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in May 1989. He loved music by singing in the choir, playing trumpet in the band, and participating in musicals. Mike continued his love for music by playing in the University of North Dakota Pep Band and singing in the Varsity Bards. He graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors from the University of North Dakota and was awarded the Outstanding Public Relations Graduate in December 1993.
Michael was employed by East Grand Forks Water and Light, Burkland Farms, and the Home of Economy. He began employment at Minnkota Power Cooperative in August 1997. He presently was their Communications Supervisor.
Michael was a member of Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks. He sang many years in the choir and was an Elder of the church.
Michael was an avid model and antique railroad collector. He visited many train yards around Minnesota with his Grandpa Forde. He also participated in many local and regional train shows.
Michael enjoyed going to the YMCA, visiting with friends, and attending University of North Dakota hockey games with his family.
Michael is survived by his parents, John and Marilyn Nisbet of East Grand Forks, and his sister, Michelle, of Maple Grove, MN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bennie and Gladys Forde of Bemidji, MN, Harold and Olene Nisbet of East Grand Forks, a special aunt and uncle, Hugh and Bernice Nisbet of East Grand Forks, and the family's compassionate dog, "Koti".
Michael was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009 in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, 528 10th St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service on Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, 528 10th St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery , Bemidji, MN in the spring of 2009
