Irene M. Flom, 91, Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Valley Memorial Home Woodside Village, Grand Forks.
Irene Magdelene Miller was born August 25, 1917, in Hamar, ND, the daughter of Maximilian and Mathilda (Hendricks) Miller. She grew up in Hamar then moved to Grand Forks, ND.
Irene married John Flom on June 14, 1941 in Warwick, ND. They made their home in Grand Forks where Irene was well known for working at the concession booth of the City Arena (now Purpur Arena) and Apollo Park from 1968 to 2002. Irene sold school lunch tickets at area high schools and Jr. high schools and worked as a cook at Belmont School until 1984.
Irene was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church where she was involved with the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She was honored by the Grand Forks Senior Center for her volunteer work. She also enjoyed BINGO, rummage sales and was an avid Twins baseball fan. She enjoyed time at the lake and was a very serious card player, but Irene’s family was of utmost importance to her.
Survivors include her children, Terry (Carolyn) Flom, Grand Forks, Judy (Rob) Larson, Boynton Beach, FL, Mitzi (Mike) Barney, Glendive, MT, Doug Flom, Fargo, ND, Penny (A.C.) Brooks, Lantana, FL; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; daughter, Patty (Jerry) Rolland; son, Bob (Peggy) Flom; brother, Howard Miller and sister, Lena Miller
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2009, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary and Prayer Service, in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service on Monday in the church.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
Memorials: The family requests memorials be directed to Red River Valley Hospice, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Valley Memorial Home, Woodside Village.

I worked with Irene at Belmont School and often saw her at Apollo Park when my children played ball. She was a kind, wonderful lady who was always such a hard worker. Please accept my sympathy in your loss. Cathy Pyle03/25/2009 9:12 AM
