Helen L. Schmisek, 92, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009, at home surrounded by her family.

Helen Lucille Olson was born June 19, 1916 in Grand Forks the daughter of Edward and Gunda (Overby) Olson. She was raised in Grand Forks, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School. Helen married Albert F. Schmisek (Deacon Al) on August 6, 1938 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. The Rev. Mr. Albert Schmisek preceded her in death on February 8, 2000.

Helen was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church since 1938, St. Michael's Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America Court Marquette 677. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by, her children, Roger (Bobbie), Fergus Falls, MN, Joan (Tony) Scheett, Grand Forks, ND, Barb (Mike) Fowler, Terre Haute, IN, Gayle Bailey, Grand Forks, ND, John (Rita), Highlands Ranch, CO, Carol (Larry) Holweger, Grand Forks, ND; a brother, Alvin Olson, Isanti, MN; twenty three grandchildren, David (Marlene), Mark, Paul (Melanie) and Scott Schmisek; Dale, Angie, Gerard (Alethia) and Dan (Jen) Scheett; Dawn Kackley, Eric (Abbey) Fowler and Heather (Jeff) Howard; Allen (Terri), Jim (Jan) Bailey, Laura (Doug) Langer, Rob (Kim) Bailey, Wanda (Kevin) Armstrong and Joe Bailey; Brian (Marnie) Schmisek Amy (Mark) Strong, Tracy (Dan) Schuster and Mike (Samantha) Schmisek Todd (Bethani) and Scott (Missy) Holweger; forty one great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin, Isanti, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Al Schmisek; a great grandson, Josh Kackley; her parents; sisters, Ruth Adams and Ethel Johnson; brothers, Cliff, Henry, Arthur and Edwin.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2009 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2009, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service and a 4:30 p.m. rosary service in Gregory J. Norman - Norman Funeral Home; the rosary being led by the Catholic Daughters of America. Visitation will continue for one hour before Mass on Thursday at the church.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND, in the spring.

Aunt Helen had a kind and gentle heart. She was a great lady and will be dearly missed by all of us. Lovingly, Kitty and Mike Monley
