A mountain lion in a tree near Osakis, Minn.

Dave Larson of Osakis, Minn., was hunting coyotes with hounds Jan. 23 when the dogs picked up the scent of this mountain lion and soon treed the cat. Larson used the camera on his smart phone to take several photographs and a video clip of the cat. He said the mountain lion likely is the same cat that first was captured on a trail camera in the area in November. Minnesota doesn't have a known population of mountain lions, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
