A painting of a common goldeneye by San Francisco artist Robert Steiner has been selected as the winner of the 2012 Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced this week. Steiner’s painting will be made into the 2013-2014 Federal Duck Stamp, which will go on sale in late June 2013. The Fish and Wildlife Service produces the stamp, which sells for $15 and is required of all waterfowl hunters age 16 and older. The stamp raises about $25 million annually for wetland conservation in the National Wildlife Refuge System. Stamp sales have raised more than $850 million since 1934.
