A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service official hands 4-H children buckets of water filled with finger-length lake sturgeon to release Wednesday during a ceremony to commemorate the newly renovated Hickson Dam along the Red River south of Fargo. The upgrades to the dam and the Christine Dam farther south enhance recreational safety and improve fish passage on the Red River. Completion of the two projects leaves the dam near Drayton, N.D., as the only barrier to fish passage on the U.S. side of the Red. (Forum Communications photo)
