Wally Kaname Yonamine (1974)

In this October 1974 photo, Wally Kaname Yonamine, then manager of Chunichi Dragons, is tossed in to the air by his team players and fans after his team won the Central League championship at a stadium in Nagoya, central Japan. Yonamine, the first American to play professional baseball in Japan after World War II and a former running back with the San Francisco 49ers, has died. He was 85. His son, Paul Yonamine, told The Associated Press that Yonamine died Monday night, Feb. 28, 2011, at a Honolulu retirement home after a bout with prostate cancer. (AP Photo/Kyodo News)
