In this July 29, 2010 photo, emergency room nurse Jeaux Rinehart stands inside Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Rinehart was accustomed to fielding kicks, spits, scratches and flying punches from his patients there, but one day in 2007 he didn't move quickly enough. An erratic intravenous drug user who had entered the ER in search of a fix, grabbed a club, came up from behind and, as Rinehart turned, smashed it into his face. Bones broken, Rinehart sucked meals from a straw for weeks.
