The Hollywood sign is near the top of Beachwood Canyon adjacent to Griffith Park in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. A nature conservation group said it has reached a deal that would protect a huge swath of land above the Hollywood sign from being developed into luxury homes. The Trust for Public Land said Wednesday, April 14, 2010, it has received a 16-day extension to finish raising the $12.5 million it needs to buy and preserve the hilltop property from private developers.
