Jacob Mattson northern pike
Jacob Mattson, 11, Grand Forks (right), released this 34-inch northern pike April 5 while ice fishing with family and friends on Devils Lake. A fifth-grader at Century Elementary School in Grand Forks, Mattson landed the fish on a smelt fished below a tip-up. Holding the fish for Mattson is Brad Durick of Grand Forks. The northern was big enough to qualify for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s Catch and Release Club, and Jacob will get a patch to commemorate the catch. Jacob is the son of Ken and Julie Mattson of Grand Forks.
