Alton was born March 26, 1930, near Neche to Thomas and Ruby (Inglis) Horsley. He grew up in the Neche area where he attended school and also attended the Walsh County Agricultural School. Alton served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the service he returned to the Neche area where he farmed. In 1959, he married Joyce Douville and they had three children. He was a member of the Neche American Legion Post.

Alton Horsley, 82, of Walhalla, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.
