Ruth was born February 18, 1916 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Sanden) Jorde. She attended country school and graduated from Thief River Falls High School. She was married to Roland Christie in 1934. Roland died in 1935 shortly before the birth of their daughter, Roberta. Ruth married Lester Engen in 1940. They moved to Seattle, WA, where Lester worked at the shipyards during World War II. After the war, they returned to Thief River Falls, and in 1948 they moved to Bozeman, MT. Lester died in 1997. Ruth and Lester had three daughters. Ruth was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, a seamstress, an artist, and she lived in Bozeman until she moved to East Grand Forks in 2009.
