Scott, you mean that because of your perception, only people like you can enjoy the game. You obviously are centered on the dirtier side of the game. I don't know, maybe it allows you to live out some violent fantasies that you associate with your identity. But you have no right to tell others what the game is about. Why don't you go tell youth hockey in your town that hockey isn't a family event. Tell that to the thousands of parents that put their lives on hold during hockey season in order to accomodate the scheduled games in their kids' hockey season. Why don't YOU just stay home and listen on the radio?

Not selling alcohol will just make the students and others drink more before and after the game causing too much binge drinking and alcohol poisonings. Secondly, stop playing the "beer song" 20 times during the game, all you are doing is encouraging people to drink. And lastly, police the students more. If students can sneak dead gophers to the game, they are probably sneaking flasks and other things along the way as well.

I've never been to a game at Marriucci arena when the Sioux are down there, is the atmosphere the same or different? Let's keep in mind that the gophers suck and there's really nothing for their 4,000 fans to cheer about. Melody, REA doesn't allow alcohol to be consumed in the student section in the arena. People are forgetting that this is hockey. Not golf or tennis. It can be civilized, but this is a fast, rough and tumble game that has the players and the fans on the edges of their bench and seats. It's about knocking your opponent on his butt, and making him hurt. It's about swearing and punching and sticking and fighting tooth and nail to get your oppenent to bow down before you. this is a sport that has never been for the faint of heart. If you're looking for an event you can bring your whole family to, stay home and watch Disney! Or go watch Tiger Woods play. This is a game that gets out of hand (in the crowds and on the ice) and that is the history of sport of hockey, and that is the glory of what we cheer for when we say Fighting Sioux!

A quote by John Wooden: 'Earn the right to be proud and confident."' I feel fans should not allowed to taunt other visiting teams for any reason either verbally or written by t-shirt, chants or posters...after all it is a G A M E. Another great quote; “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” says John Wooden

Eliminating the alcohol that can be purchased at the arena will not eliminate the problems. People will still drink before the game. The problem lies in the mindset of many of those attending the game. They think that the vulgar language and displays of poor sportmanship are o.k. (and even promoted...sieve, sieve, sieve,) at a venue of this nature. Until those of us who attend these games decide not to tolerate this behavior, it will continue. I'm sure I will be accused of being a "nancy" for saying this, but we truly have lowered ourselves as a society in regards to what we tolerate as acceptable and mature public behavior.
