HEY -- Whatever happened to SPORTSMANSHIP?? And why do people (young OR old) feel a need to be ROWDY? Good for you, Ronny L. for your take on all of this.!!!. I used to comment AGAINST sports to people once in awhile, and would always hear, "Oh, It teaches kids to be GOOD sports; HA-HA I believe it teaches them to be boorish, uncivilized, etc., etc. One could cheer, have fun, be excited, without the foul mouths. What a slam on parents who have not raised their kids to be better than this ! This attitude of total indecency carries over into ALL aspects of life - not just during a (sports?) event....

I don't like the profanity but compared to what I experienced as a Sioux goalie on the WCHA road in the 60s the situation has gotten better. Having your team attacked at Colorado College so that 30 Colorado state troopers are needed to get you to your dressing room between periods, e.g. Having glass whiskey bottles thrown out of the upper deck in Denver at players on the ice. Having fans spitting through the wire barrier around the ice in Mich. Tech until you are covered with spittle from head to foot and management does nothing. REA is a the most civil environment I have seen in comparison to what it used to be like in other places in the league.

What a huge waste of time. Really meetings? Just another waste of money and time. The only thing GF/UND can do to stop this is to quit playing hockey and use REA to sell Bibles and hold self help seminars. Why do people think that A Sioux vs. Golphers hockey game is not going to be a hot bed of emotions? Always has been and always will be. I have been to a MN home game vs. UND and they are way worse hosts than REA could ever be.

I could see them getting rid of 32 oz beers at the game. If you go to most major sporting events the largest beer you can buy is the 16oz plastic bottle.

True, the "F" word is not very appropriate. I hear it in chants all the time though. Michigan State vs. Michigan is a huge rivalry here, obviously. You would not believe how crazy East Lansing gets after playing their rivals. I guess it's more accepted here or something, because the guards stop some of it from happening, (like fights, nudity, etc.) but they let the chants continue. I think it's because you really have to pick your battles. I would say in this situation, let them chant and take care of the violence first. A safe environment is more crucial than a naughty word.

Ronny L. - The college students don't financially support the hockey team? Do you know how much it costs a student to attend even one class at the university? Are you saying that NONE of that tuition money goes to athletics for the school? And they do pay for hockey tickets as well...and purchase items from the Sioux shop. Just because you buy a ticket for a single game, or maybe season tickets, doesn't mean you (you being all non-students that purchase tickets) are the sole financial backer to the hockey team. Without the students, there would be no university, and no hockey team. JT - good point...they weren't students. This whole story and the comments make me laugh...people just always need something to complain about don't they? No matter where you go, sporting event or not, there will be immature idiots around doing something you don't like...deal with it, and stop making an issue out of something that really, in the grand scheme of things, is not important.

There was not a fight after the Minnesota game. It was an assault! Jason Smith did nothing to provoke the Minnesota fan to crack his skull open. The problem isn't videos that play before the game to get people pumped. The problem is people not respecting those around them. When did we all lose touch with respecting our neighbor? I for one am tired of the complete lack of control displayed by people. Grow up!

I've never been to a hockey game where the fans sat quietly and watched the game. That's not what makes it fun and exciting. . . for anyone. I admit I don't know anything about what actually took place at or after the game, but it seems silly to me that they are trying to take away something that has been so strung in with hockey. I plan on going to UND next year, and I know I want to have fun and get rowdy. All sports, (minus golf) seem to have that rowdy and crazy side at any school. I love it! I always thought of cheering for your school and participating in an over-the-top student crowd was part of the college experience. Just my thoughts.

I'm puzzled why the type of behavior that if it ocurred in a bar probably would result in an arrest for Disorderly Conduct seems to be viewed by so many as not just a necessity but a right to be condoned if done in the REA? The excuse it's for the team or home ice advantage is baseless. Irregardless of the sport any athlete speaking honestly will tell you they don't hear or pay attention to the crowd and cheerleaders when they are playing/competing...
