If you've gotta be drunk in order to enjoy a sporting event, there's a bigger problem going on. There's no reason a crowd can't be loud and rowdy while keeping in mind that there are kids in the arena. It's you red-faced, huge-stomached rednecks who are trying to bully parents into keeping their kids from enjoying a hockey game that need to stay at home. I've sat behind you, next to you, in front of you, across from you at the games. While you don't bother me any more than a misbehaving child bothers me, you have NO right to tell people who want to take their family to a hockey game to stay home. Who the hell gave you idiots the power to say how it goes?

I love the rowdy crowds at the REA........at least when I have a chance to make it home for a game. The chants, songs, and cheers all make attending a Sioux hockey game so awesome! Just show some class and stop dropping the "F" Bombs. GO SIOUX!!!!

Don't you want your fans to be passionate and excited about the game? The home crowd is supposed to be rowdy, loud and helping out the home team. UND makes is sound like they are looking for a corporate-quiet type audience. Buh-bye home ice advantage

It's hockey. When someone buys a ticket they know they're not going to Disney on ice. Maybe parents should be thinking twice about bringing children to the game knowing this. Also, if you're offended by the conduct don't go to the games. Eventually if enough people stop going then it will force changes, if not, let the people who enjoy the enviroment enjoy it. For the other people you can go watch the ballet and enjoy the more subdued enviroment.

Purchasing a ticket doesn't give anyone license to be an offensive loudmouth. I do understand it though...these are the same crass, inconsiderate morons who yell profanities at officials of a 6-year olds basketball game where they aren't even keeping score yet.

I wonder why so many commenters seem to missing the fact that this "topic" is actually 2 separate issues. The first is the vulgarities and message of the crowd chants, and the second is are choices of individuals in settings outside the game (in the concourse, outside the venue, etc.). There is no reason the crowd can't get loud, raucous, and in the face of the opposing team and fans without being physical or vulgar. Do chants, sing songs, show the opposing player in the penalty box with a smart-aleck sign behind him. All of those things can easily be accomplished "cleanly" but still be intimidating. Some of the earlier posters who defend the hockey history and experience are right in the sense of the atmosphere. If you dont' like it rowdy at a Divison 1 college hockey game, don't go. But that same atmosphere doesn't have to be truly offensive. Chant "Shoot the Gophers" - it doesn't have to be F***, does it? It's the same message.

It's been like this since the day of time.......If you don't like it then be that person and don't go. The people that are making this a bigger deal than it is are the same people that would sue a person for something stupid! Here is an idea, for those opposed to the crowds cheers, contact eachother, get a big group together and then sit a one of those guys house a watch games from now on. I would also bet that half the people that are against it that have made comments on here dont even go to games on a regular basis. So on that note I say shame on you for trying to sway this battle that way. If you are a UND fan and there to support your team then PROUDLY KEEP CHEERING!

I like the WEAR EARPLUGS post. We pay for the tickets and we can do what we want. If they are going to make all kinds of dumb rules they better be giving me my tickets for free.

Melody, You are right on. It began some years ago - with a decreased decorum, discipline and accountability throughout the school systems (at all levels). The liberal wing of this country sought and achieved control of our education system. They got it and this is one the results. Nice job! Not to give the parents a free ride, since far too many are unwilling to discipline their children for poor behavior.
