About 200 people showed up at a meeting held by locked-out American Crystal Sugar Co. workers Saturday in East Grand Forks, though the person they really wanted to see wasn’t there.

Grand Forks library gains in popularity 
Grand Forks Public Library saw another busy year in 2011 despite what library officials have described as an outdated and cramped building. The number of books and other material checked out soared close to 486,000, which is 12 percent more than four years ago. The number of people attending library programs soared past 8,900, which is 212 percent more.

Larimore, N.D., nursing home raising funds for community wellness center
When Calvin Peterson, a former resident of the Good Samaritan Society’s nursing home in Larimore, N.D., heard of an effort to bring a community wellness center to town, he set aside some money to donate. Crystal agrees to union contract — but it’s in Montana 
The contract that Moorhead-based American Crystal Sugar Co. signed last week with the Bakery Worker’s union at a subsidiary in Sidney, Mont., is similar to the contract the company offered to locked-out union workers at its Red River Valley factories, a company executive said this week.
But a union leader here said there are key differences.
