Dr. Abdul Hafeez of Unity Medical Center in Grafton, N.D., served his last day as a family medicine physician on Wednesday.
Hafeez received his medical degree from Punjab University in Pakistan before moving to North Dakota in 1975, according to Everett Butler, CEO of Unity.
Throughout his 38-year career in Grafton, Hafeez led many projects that continue to benefit the Grafton today, Butler said.
“He was here through the consolidation of the hospital and the clinic (in the 70s),” said Butler, adding that Hafeez’s retirement will “leave a big hole in our organization.”
“I didn’t think he’d ever retire,” said Butler. “He’s off to be a grandpa.”
Butler said Hafeez is moving to Connecticut to be closer to his family, his grandchildren especially.
The clinic closed early on Wednesday to accommodate an open house reception.
