Acme Tools of Grand Forks is planning a 40,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center in the city’s Industrial Park.
The company has submitted a proposal to purchase city-owned land at 1851 S. 48th St. for $592,355, or $1.50 per square foot of the approximately 9-acre parcel of land.
In a letter to Grand Forks Urban Development Director Greg Hoover, Acme Vice President Steve Kuhlman wrote that the company intended to use the facility to support its growing Internet sales division.
The proposal would be the first development in the expanded business park.
The Grand Forks Growth Fund Committee will consider Acme’s request at its meeting April 23. If the committee members recommend approval, it will go to the city Jobs Development Authority for final approval May 6.
Acme Tools was founded in Grand Forks in 1948 and now has nine retail locations in North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. Its corporate headquarters is in Grand Forks on North Washington Street.
According to its website, the family-owned business was started by George Kuhlman, the grandfather of Steve Kuhlman.
