The Pembina (N.D.) State Museum has been awarded the 2013 International Tourism Award at the Governor’s Travel and Tourism Awards in Grand Forks.
The museum was recognized for its work with Canadian institutions to promote tourism in North Dakota. The museum is just one mile from the U.S.-Canada border, and has been part of such projects as the Trans-Canada Pembina Trail Loop, part of the Trans-Canada Trail, which brings hikers, bikers and all-terrain vehicle drivers to the museum.
Julie Rygg, executive director of Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitors Bureau, won the Wade Westin Award for Marketing for the bureau’s use of the Internet and social media to promote businesses within Grand Forks.
Other award winners include the Red River Zoo in Fargo for Attraction of the Year and Big Iron Farm Show in West Fargo, N.D, for Event of the Year.
