D.I.Y. Play-Doh

This do-it-yourself recipe is great for a fun, inexpensive way to spend an afternoon for big kids and the kiddos.

By: Melinda Lavine, Grand Forks Herald

What you’ll need

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

2 packs of Kool Aid (purple will turn gray)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 cup water

2 teaspoon cream of tartar (optional)

In a small saucepan, mix water, oil, salt, food coloring, cream of tartar (optional). Over medium heat, stir continuously for 5 to 10 minutes until the mixture forms a ball. When it’s done, pour flour on a cutting board (or some other nonstick surface), place your Play-Doh on it to cool for about 20 to 30 minutes. Knead it until it’s smooth, adding flour as needed to minimize stickiness. And voila! You’re ready to play.

Note: If you want to opt for food coloring over Kool-Aid, the colors may turn out a bit brighter, but using Kool-Aid will make the Play-Doh smell a bit better.

Storage: Keep your homemade Play-Doh in an airtight plastic container. If you want it to last longer, refrigerate it.
