ICE TIME: Derek Forbort Q & A

Q. So, what’s this about you driving a minivan?

A. Myself and Dan Kristo share a minivan. It hasn’t been running lately. She’s in hibernation right now. We’ve been bumming rides, but hopefully we can get it going in the springtime.

Q. How’d you get it?

A. We got it from my mom.

Q. You have to be the only people in campus cruising in a minivan, right?

A. Yeah, it’s awesome. We drive it with pride. It’s been there for us over the years. We’re not going to quit on her now.

Q. Has your game changed at all this year?

A. Not really. I kind of consider myself a defense-first kind of guy. I scored a couple more goals this year than years before, but other than that, I’m just trying to be solid defensively, be hard to play against and move the puck.

Q. Is it weird not playing with Ben Blood this year?

A. We had a good thing going. It was a little adjustment at first playing with Jordan (Schmaltz), but he knows the game so well. That makes it easy. We think the game the same way. He’s a little more offensive and I’m a little more defensive.

Q. At least you are still paired with a No. 24, right?

A. Yes, the number stayed the same, but he’s a different hand.

Q. What has it been like working with Brad Berry this year? Was it an adjustment?

A. It’s awesome, I like it a lot. Cary Eades was great, too. (Berry) knows so many little things about the game. He works a lot with us in the mornings and that just helps us improve our games. He knows what it takes to get to the next level. It’s been awesome having him around.

Q. What are your thoughts on the upcoming Denver series?

A. I’m excited. They’re a pretty good team. It’s a pretty big rivalry and always a fun series to play in. I can’t wait to get it going.

Q. You guys always have plenty of fans there, don’t you?

A. Yeah. It’s pretty cool to hear the ‘home of the Sioux’ at the end of the anthem. We always have a lot of fans there.

Q. Are you glad you had last week off considering your long weekend after getting stranded on your return trip home from Omaha?

A. Yeah. That would have been terrible to have to play right away. We wouldn’t have had much practice time or time to rest. It (the week off) came at a good time.
