BISMARCK — Whooping cough cases are on the rise in North Dakota. State health officials are urging parents and caregivers to make sure children are vaccinated against pertussis.
The Health Department says 179 cases have been reported in North Dakota. That's more than double the amount reported last year.
The department says whooping cough cases usually peak every three to five years. The most recent peak in North Dakota was in 2004, when 757 cases were reported.
There were only 70 cases in the state last year.
