John E. Stiles, 82, Bismarck, died September 26, 2012 in a Bismarck hospital.
John was born on May 17, 1930 in Gilby, ND to Jack & Eda Stiles. He was raised and educated in Gilby and Emerado, ND and graduated from Emerado High School. He attended NDSSC in Wahpeton prior to joining the Marine Corps in 1950 and was a Korean War Veteran. He married Bonnie Olson in 1954 in Edmore, ND. In January 1955 he was accepted into the U.S. Border Patrol and in 1963 transferred into the U.S. Immigration Service where he served until his retirement in 1985. Throughout the years he was stationed in Texas, California, Montana and North Dakota.
John was a lifetime member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He also volunteered for many years with ESGR following his retirement. He enjoyed amateur radio, camping, and taking cruise ship vacations.
John is survived by his wife, Bonnie, Bismarck; two daughters, Kim (Greg) Hagen, Minot and Jodi Stiles, Boise, ID; five grandchildren, Shawna (Paul) Pacheco, Lyndon & Layne Scheveck, Seth and Trent Hagen; one great-grandchild, Kaydon Pacacheo; sister, Eileen Heider, Grand Forks and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating.
Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan following the service.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service.
