Roger A. Walsh, 66, McCanna, ND passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his home of natural causes.

Roger Allen Walsh was born on August 30, 1945 the son of Vernon and Ethel (Lundy) Walsh in Grand Forks, ND. Roger was baptized at Elk Valley Lutheran Church, McCanna. He attended the Elkmount No. 33 rural grade school, Fordville, ND and attended High School in Fordville. He later attended the State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND. He served in the US Army in January of 1966 until his honorable discharge in January of 1968. He lived in California after his discharge until the early 1970's and then returned to live in Niagara, ND for a number of years. He was employed at the University of North Dakota in the Engineering Department and lived in Grand Forks. He later worked for Nissen Manufacturing, Larimore, ND and lived in McCanna until his retirement due to health.

Roger was a brilliant guitar player and singer. He enjoyed the Bluegrass flat picking guitar style and honed the "high lonesome" Bluegrass tenor voice. He was a true troubadour and inspiration to his many band mates and friends. He was a life long band leader and performed in and led many bands, notably, The Cabin Fever Band from Grand Forks.

He is survived by brothers, Richard (Beverly), Grand Forks, ND, Robert (Kathy), Larimore, ND and Randy, Niagara, ND; nieces and nephews, Kristi Kratochvil, Lon (Jane) Kratochvil, Jodi (Scott) Boettner, Shane (Tammy) Walsh, Tanya (Dave) Coyne and Bryce Walsh.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and step-mother, Irene; sister, Karen Kratochvil and brother-in-law, Bill Kratochvil.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2012 in Gregory J. Norman - Norman Funeral Home, 2950 St. Washington St., Grand Forks.

Family Greeting: One hour before services at the funeral home on Monday.

Interment: 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Elk Valley Cemetery, McCanna, ND.

Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Ted Balerius Post 97, Larimore, ND and the North Dakota National Guard.
