Nancy Roethler, Grand Forks, letter: Altru delivers personal, first-rate care

GRAND FORKS — When I read all the accusations and negative comments about Altru Health System, it really upsets me.

I have had health care in many cities and at many different clinics and hospitals. But I never have been to a clinic or hospital that does better at treating me like an individual, not a number.

I’ve read the comments about family members working at competing clinics. But this is common business practice with many corporations. My brother used to work for a major beer manufacturer, running the hops plant; and if workers there were caught drinking a competitor’s beverage, they were fired.

Most businesses do this for corporate security reasons, such as to protect upcoming projects.

I don’t understand why some people are so negative in their comments about Altru. Again, I’ve been to other places, and I can testify that I was a number. Doctors didn’t take the time to listen to me; there was a schedule to be kept, so the feeling I got was, “let’s keep the patient turnstile going.”

In contrast, the doctors I’ve had at Altru know about my personal life and family, ask me about many things and and don’t rush me out of the room.

I think Grand Forks should be proud of the quality of medical care available through Altru.

Let’s make Altru the best through community support rather than trying to break the system down and damage Altru Clinic and Altru Hospital. Let’s embrace the mission of care and forget about the gossip and nasty comments.

I love Altru, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Nancy Roethler
