Leevers, which originated in Devils Lake and already owns Leevers County Market in the city, is buying the community’s only other supermarket from Nash Finch Co., which had purchased Wally’s late last year.

Officials say that while it is a business purchase, it is more of a partnership. Twin Cities-based Nash Finch, a Fortune 500 grocery supplier that got its start in Devils Lake in 1885, is the main product supplier for Leevers.

“It is exciting for us to own a second supermarket in Devils Lake, where we opened our very first store,” Leevers President Robert Leevers said. “We are grateful for the support the Devils Lake community has shown us over our history, and are pleased to be able to offer them a second location to shop with us.”

In addition to Devils Lake, where it is based is based, Leevers owns stores in other North Dakota cities including Cavalier, Langdon, Rolla, Rugby and Valley City.

Leevers Foods is owned and operated by second-generation owner Robert Leevers and his two children, James Leevers and Beth Leevers-Dunn. It was founded more than 70 years ago by Robert’s father Norman Leevers.
