Clarence was born to the late Clarence and Lillian Peterson on December 4, 1928. He graduated from Stephen High School in 1946. He married the love of his life, Lois Laude in 1950 and they lived in rural Stephen where they farmed and raised three children, Susan, Thomas, and John.
Clarence (Pete or Junior as most people called him) was an avid hunter and fisherman. Winters were filled with reloading shells and hunting fox in his homemade snow plane. Summers were fishing, skeet shooting, and bird hunting.
Pheasants were his favorite bird to hunt. He was a member of the Stephen Rod and Gun Club. Clarence was an active member of the Parker Township Board, where he served 56 years as the treasurer. Clarence was also on the board of directors for the Midland Cooperative and the Farmers Co-op Elevator.
He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church of Stephen and served on several church boards. Clarence had a true love for John Deere tractors, Ford automobiles, Brittany Spaniels and most of all, farming.
Clarence had a great appreciation and love for life. He had a genuine interest in people and loved talking to them. Clarence could talk to anyone. He even had a conversation with Porter Wagoner, country music singer, at a gas station in Nashville. Clarence and Lois traveled for many winters exploring almost every state in the nation. They especially loved the history of the eastern states. Family meant the world to Clarence. He loved holidays spent with his family. He was always so interested in everyone's lives. In his later years spent at the Good Samaritan, Clarence was known and loved by all who worked there. He made sure he knew everyone's name and where they were from.
He always welcomed new staff with a handshake and a smile.
