William Dale Deitz was born on Jan. 27, 1967 at Grand Forks, ND to Gerald E. and Ruth A. (Delage) Deitz. He attended Red River High School where he was an integral part of the high school wrestling team. He then attended the North Dakota State School of Science and earned a Bachelor's degree in HVAC technologies. He then enlisted in the Navy and served with distinction on the USS Independence where he was able to travel the world. He moved to the Black Hills where he met and married his wife, Sonia Nelson on Apr. 7, 1995 at Hot Springs. They so cherished raising their daughter, Neha.
Bill was currently employed through the VA Medical System in Fort Meade, SD, where he served our veterans with pride for years. He was also currently preparing for yet another deployment overseas for a year.
Bill was an active golfer, bowler and family friend who was always there to lend a hand. He had a heart of gold and was always welcomed wherever he went. We all learned lessons from Bill about how to be a great friend and father. The true size of his heart will never be known, but those whose lives he touched will never forget his generosity and kindness. His legacy will live on through those memories he had left us of what it means to be a true man, father, husband and all-out amazing person whose life was taken from us all too soon. Thank you, Bill, for always being there and truly touching our lives.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia Deitz of Rapid City; his beloved daughter, Neha Deitz of Rapid City and her fiance', Blane Hockenbary; three sisters, Vanessa Munn of Boise, ID, Mary Goetz of Klamath Falls, OR and Cindy Robertson of Grand Forks, ND; three brothers, Craig Deitz, Paul Deitz and Andy Deitz, all of Warren, MN; his in-laws, Bob and Aletha Nelson of Hot Springs and his brothers-in-law, Bob Nelson, Jr. of Casper, WY and Jared Nelson of Rapid City.
