Sylvester H. Mokerski, 77, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Friday, March 16, 2012 at his home with his wife, children and their family dog, Autumn at his side.

Sylvester H. Mokerski, 77, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Friday, March 16, 2012 at his home with his wife, children and their family dog, Autumn at his side.

Sylvester Henry Mokerski was born November 26, 1934 in Ardoch, ND, the son of Anton and Lillian (Helmoski) Mokerski. He was raised and educated in the local rural school and Minto, ND. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 18, 1957 and was honorably discharged from military service in June 1958. Syl married Shirley Muston on December 28, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale, TX. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minto, Ardoch and Drayton, ND. They lived and traveled in their motor home and spent many winters in Rockdale, TX and Corpus Christie, TX. Syl was employed as a construction worker in the Grand Forks area and Concrete Inc. He was employed with Crystal Sugar in Drayton, ND from 1976 until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, staying busy around the yard and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Grand Forks, and the American Legion Post 0201 of Minto, ND.

He is survived by, his wife, Shirley; children, Sherry (Robert) Thompson, Grand Forks, ND, Sidney (Pam) Mokerski, Grand Forks, ND, Shelly (Norman) Thompson, Cavalier, ND, Steve (Sherry) Mokerski, Grand Forks, ND, Sandra Cadreau, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Cory and Kayla Cadreau, Rebecca and Rachel Thompson, all of Grand Forks, ND; Micah Mokerski and step-grandchildren, Tennielle and Brandon Thompson, all of Cavalier, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Sylvester, Jr. “Butch” and a brother, Ambrose.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. rosary service followed by a vigil service at the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy at the church on Tuesday.

Burial: St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, in the spring with military honors.
