Altru Health System’s Ambulance Services has been awarded nearly $85,000 in grants to purchase four new mobile heartbeat monitors used during 911 calls.

The funding through the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program will buy four 12-lead electrocardiogram monitors that measure the electrical activity of the heart.

The upgraded equipment will allow paramedics to perform tests that are immediately transmitted to the hospital for a cardiologist to read, which can help the cardiology staff be ready for when the patient arrives and bypass time in the emergency room.
