Winter weather leads to deteriorating travel conditions in southwest N.D., parts of S.D.

BISMARCK — Travel conditions are deteriorating in parts of the Dakotas as the states get their second measurable snowfall in a week.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 94 were closed early today between Mandan and Dickinson, N.D., and no travel was advised in the eastbound lanes. No travel was advised on some South Dakota roads, and transportation officials in North Dakota issued a travel alert for the south central part of the state.

The National Weather Service issued winter weather warnings and advisories early today for parts of the two states. As much as 9 inches of snow had fallen in southwest North Dakota. Some areas in South Dakota were expecting about half a foot of snow by the end of the day.
