GRAND FORKS — Thanks go out to the Grand Forks Park District for sponsoring Greenway Ski Days on Feb. 4.
New American families and volunteers working with Global Friends Coalition, a non-profit organization with the mission of building friendships with new Americans, gathered to enjoy sledding at Lincoln Park.
What an excellent community event.
For some New Americans, this was the first time they ever had sledded.
UND’s Christus Rex organization supported the event by donating sleds.
We were delighted with the chance to try cross country skiing, thanks to the Ski and Bike Shop, and to go on sleigh and horse rides sponsored by the American Federal Bank.
Lynne Roche with the Grand Forks Park District encouraged us to take advantage of the various activities going on that day.
The Greenway Ski Days encourage families to get out and enjoy winter — and what a gorgeous day it was.
The morning opened with the trees covered in hoarfrost, and by the afternoon, the sun had melted the frost.
It was a warm enough day for people of all ages to get together and enjoy the out-of-doors.
This is just one example of how Grand Forks is striving to be a welcoming community.
