Jay Haugen, age 57, resident of Michigan, ND, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Alvin G. Haugen Jr. was born August 9, 1954 in Michigan, ND, the son of Alvin G. Sr. and Dorothy (Berdahl) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church. He attended school in Michigan, and graduated from Michigan High School in 1972. He began working at the Ford garage there. Jay married Paulette Severson Kallestad on April 26, 1980 in Michigan. From 1984 to 1991 Jay worked temporarily for the State Highway Department in Devils Lake on the Sign Crew. In March of 1992 he became the Michigan City Superintendent and in 1995 became the City Auditor. He served in both capacities until the present time. Jay was a true sports fan. He loved to golf, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, the NY Yankees, the Boston Celtics, UND Fighting Sioux, and high school sports. He played softball quite often in his younger years. He enjoyed listening to music, grilling and picnics, spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Michigan Duffers Club and served as past president.

Jay will be deeply missed forever by his family and everybody that knew him: his wife, Paulette “P.J.” Haugen of Michigan, ND; his son, Jayson Haugen of Bismarck, ND; 2 step-daughters, Shelly Roningen of Bismarck and Penny (Duane) Lippert of Aneta, ND; 5 grandchildren, Madison, Paytan, and Riley Lippert, John Roningen, and Jayden Collins; his mother, Dorothy Haugen of Michigan; a brother, Mike (Elaine) Haugen of Michigan; 3 sisters, Dawn (Robert) Godwin of West Yellowstone, MT, Cathy (Gary) Brueckner of Niagara, ND, and Holly (Kevin) Rothwell of Westminster, CO; his nieces and nephews, Bryan Haugen, Shandy (Mike) Hatlestad, Brittany (Nick) Hemmingson, Tanner (Amber) Brueckner, Cody Brueckner, Rachael Thompson, Kory Severson, Kristi Stewart, Jill (Garrett) Kunz, Tyler Severson, and Ross Severson; and several great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Lambeau.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin G. Haugen, Sr.

The Memorial Service for Jay will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will be in the spring at the Michigan Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
