EDINA, Minn. — A bridal shop in Edina destroyed thousands of dollars in wedding dresses and other merchandise after it closed for good over the weekend.

Workers sprayed the gowns with red paint and threw them in a Dumpster. The destruction of the leftover merchandise from Priscilla of Boston upset some witnesses.

Bessie Giannakakis tells KMSP-TV she saw a Vera Wang gown with a price tag of $6,000 that was destroyed. Shelia Roth emailed the company CEO to tell him she was appalled at the blatant waste. Roth says when she asked why the dresses weren't donated she was told it had something to do with the contracts with the labels.

Priscilla of Boston president Patrick Walsh says the company has donated gowns to charities in the past, but not those that are damaged.
