BISMARCK — Every year, North Dakota lottery players don't cash more than $300,000 worth of winning tickets.
The state lottery's most recent financial report is out. It shows that gamblers didn't redeem almost $331,000 worth of lottery winners in the last budget year.
Lottery director Randy Miller says the total includes a $10,000 Powerball ticket that the buyer didn't turn in.
Gamblers have to cash a winning lottery ticket within six months. Then the prize expires. In the last five years, the value of expired lottery prizes has been as high as $392,000.
Miller says most of the uncashed winners are only for a few dollars, and people don't check their tickets or forget to turn them in.
