The Grand Forks man who fatally shot himself outside Altru Health System late Tuesday morning has been identified.
Grand Forks Police say Sean Alexander Dacus, 31, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. The bullet did not pass through his body.
Grand Forks Police Lt. Grant Schiller said an autopsy is under way.
“All indications are that this is an intentional act,” Schiller said. “There are no indications that Altru was a target or that the public had any cause for concern.”
Schiller said Dacus used a 380 caliber handgun while sitting on a bench between the emergency room and clinic doors at Altru.
Altru security responded immediately followed by emergency room personnel.
Dacus was brought into the emergency room but attempts to resuscitate him failed.
Schiller said Dacus was a veteran of the army with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Police recovered clothing, a cell phone and holster, a pill bottle with pills and wallet with identification from Dacus.
