KILLDEER, N.D. — A major highway in western North Dakota's oil patch has reopened after being closed for nearly six months.

Landslides and shifting ground in May made State Highway 22 impassable north of Killdeer. Transportation Department officials say crews moved the road 600 feet to the west and gave it a temporary asphalt surface. Permanent repairs are planned next year.

North Dakota Petroleum Council President Ron Ness says the reopening of the north-south route will help reduce traffic on other roads and improve safety. Mike Bertelsen with Black Hills Trucking in Dickinson says it also will save energy companies money.
