BISMARCK — Calls to a state-operated program that helps North Dakotans who want to quit tobacco doubled in the past two years.
The state Health Department says the Quitline program fielded 13,000 calls between 2009 and 2011. That's up from 6,334 calls in the two previous years.
The program offers free nicotine patches, gum and lozenges to people who want to kick the tobacco habit.
The North Dakota Tobacco Quitline number is 1-800-QUIT-NOW, or 800-784-8669.
