Woman dies in two-car accident near Lakota

An 81-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday evening in Lakota, N.D.

An 81-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday evening in Lakota, N.D.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a 1986 Crown Victoria, southbound coming out of Lakota on Nelson County Highway 32 when she stopped at the intersection at U.S. Highway 2. The woman then pulled out on to Highway 2 and into the path of a westbound 2008 Ford pickup driven by Autum Thompson, 19, of Westhope, N.D.

The 81-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said. Her 80-year-old male passenger was injured and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake and then airlifted to a Fargo hospital. Their names were not released. The woman was wearing a seat belt, but her passenger was not, the patrol said.

Thompson and her passenger, Benjamin Lodoen, 19, of Westhope, both were injured and taken to Mercy Hospital for observation, the patrol said. Both were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
